I cannot believe how quickly the time went, but in approximately a year I will be sending my first child off to college! While there are many thoughts running through this head as this event gets closer and closer, one of them is how can I start preparing now? One of the simplest ways is to start a stockpile of useful items to send with her. So I am going to start packing a large tote with this list of must-have items that I am going to share with you! My daughter will be moving straight into an apartment, but if your child is going to a dorm I suggest getting a flat tote that they can slide under the bed for your stockpile. Let’s get started!
Laundry Detergent
This one is pretty self-explanatory, it is expensive and they will need it. Use coupons and sales to build a stash large enough to get them through until the first break.
Toiletries
Things like shampoo, body wash, and deodorant, this is another item that is expensive and they will go through quite a bit, so try to catch their favorite brands and sale and build a stash.
Cereal/Protein Bars
Let’s face it they are most likely not going to be eating too many balanced meals, but you can create a stash of their favorite bars so they can at least grab one for breakfast and snacks.
Fuel Cards
This is not a normal stockpile item, but it will be a huge ongoing expense for them. Look for promotions at grocery stores and such that give points or discounts when you buy gift cards and send them with a stash.
Cleaning Wipes
Pick up extra containers of your favorite cleaning wipes to send with them as you find them on sale so that maybe, just maybe they will clean!
This is a fun, emotional and exciting time for both of you, and planning together can turn a someone scary experience into a bonding one!
